Guide to Lipedema Treatment

Lipedema

Lipedema is It is characterized by excessive fat deposits developing under the skin and progressively causes pain, swelling, and tenderness in the areas that are enlarged. It is typically found around the hips, thighs, calves, and arms. Lipedema liposuction surgery involves permanently removing the fat cells. This helps to reduce the swelling, restore a more proportional appearance to the limbs, and reduces pain.

Post Care: The early stage of your recovery will be quite involved and requires managing pain, lack of strength, shaking and shivering.

We will help you manage:

·  Mild to moderate pain

·  A large amount of drainage from the incisions

·  Keeping your recovery bed clean and dry from all the drainage and dressing changes

·  Swelling and bruising

·  Walking when your doctor recommends it - this helps to facilitate drainage, reduce swelling, lower the chance of developing blood clots and/or pneumonia, and avoid constipation

We will contact your doctor immediately if you have:

·  Severe pain within 24 hours of surgery

·  Shortness of breath

·  Chest pain

·  Irregular heartbeats

Your incisions will likely be covered with bandages that provide gentle pressure to minimize swelling and bruising. A small tube might be placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid.

It is imperative that we help you:

· Rest comfortably so that there is no pulling on the incision that could cause it to not heal properly

· Take pain medication as recommended by your doctor

· Apply cool packs to the face to ease pain and reduce swelling
